Lake Taupo is a favourite destination for anglers. Hire a guide to explore the
area. There are great views of Taupo, the mountains and lake from the corner
of SH1 and Huka Falls Road. At Four Mile Bay the lookout takes in the Tongariro
National Park.
Taupo's Two Mile Bay to Four Mile Bay Walkway is an easy stroll along
the lakeshore with idyllic picnic and swimming spots. The walkway continues
along a terrace above the lake to Five Mile Bay.
‘Hidden Valley’ of Orakei Korako, a geothermal wonderland
of gushing geysers, boiling mud pools and some of the largest silica terraces
in the world.
Craters of the Moon, a one-hour loop track in the geothermal area of
Wairakei.
Huka Falls are New Zealand’s best-known falls. Viewing platforms
provide excellent vantage points, or you can take a jet boat ride to the base
of the falls. The Huka Falls area is great for picnics and walks.
